The iconic Vermont-based ice cream company will serve up free scoops on Tuesday, Apr. 8. The best part is that there's no limit on how many times you can hop back in line.
Whether you're craving a classic like Phish Food, a non-dairy favorite like Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, or Scoop Shop exclusives like mango, there are plenty of flavors for fans to enjoy.
"Free Cone Day has always been about gratitude – we want to thank our fans for being the best fans in the world with free ice cream and a moment of pure joy," said CEO Dave Stever. "This year, more than ever, we're reminded how powerful those small moments of happiness can be. We can't wait to connect with our fans over a scoop of ice cream on the most Ben & Jerry-est day of the year!"
Ben & Jerry's said it served more than one million scoops worldwide in 2024. If those cones were lined up end to end, they'd stretch an estimated 80 miles.
Free Cone Day began in Burlington, VT, in 1979 when founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield handed out free scoops to thank supporters after surviving their first harsh winter. That year, the Green Mountain State's largest city saw nearly 53 inches of snow and the average temperature plunged below 15 degrees Farenheit.
In 1984, Saratoga Springs, New York, became the first place outside of Vermont to celebrate Free Cone Day. The tasty holiday has since spread to Ben & Jerry's shops in more than 35 countries.
